5. Antoine LOPES (Pedro⁴, Antonio², Antonio¹) was born circa 1759 in Mahé, Kerala, India and died on Mar 25, 1828 in Mahé, Kerala, India about age 69.

General Notes: Antoine Lopes was a Cannon Master at Mahé.
[A gun team consisted of 5 numbered gunners. The gun's "No. 1" was the Cannon Master, and a sergeant, who aimed the gun. The No. 2 was the "spongeman" who cleaned the bore with the sponge dampened with water between shots; the intention being to quench any remaining embers before a fresh charge was introduced. The No. 3, was the "loader" who inserted the bag of powder and then the projectile. The No. 2 then used a rammer, or the sponge reversed, to drive it in. At the same time, the No. 4 ("ventsman") pressed his thumb on the vent hole to prevent a draught that might fan a flame. The charge loaded, the No. 4 pricked the bagged charge through the vent hole and filled the vent with powder. At the No. 1's command the No. 5 would fire the piece with his slowmatch].

Antoine married Maria Anna D'CRUZ about 1805.

   10    iv. Francois Felix LOPES was born on Apr 16, 1817 in Mahé, Kerala, India and died on Jul 1, 1817 in Mahé, Kerala, India.

Antoine next married Marianna GONSALVES, daughter of Francisco GONSALVES and Joanna, on Jun 20, 1825. Marianna was born about 1777.

   11    i. Louisa Anna LOPES was born circa 1822.

Louisa married Romaldo DE ROZARIO on May 26, 1840. Romaldo was born about 1820.

6. Sebastien LOPES (Pedro⁴, Antonio², Antonio¹) was born in Mahé, Kerala, India and died on Jul 1, 1817 in Mahé, Kerala, India.

General Notes: Sebastian was the guardian of the company magazine at Mahé. This may have been something related to guarding the munitions stores.

Sebastien married Martha DE ROZARIO. Martha died on Feb 20, 1822.

General Notes: Domingo Lopes was baptised on the 22nd of the September, 1791 at the chapel of St Anna at the church of St Theresa d’Avilla at Mahé.
