General Notes: Antonio/Antony Saldanha learned the trade of clock making from (Lucien du Leze)?, a French clockmaker in service to Tipu Sultan, while he was a captive of Tipu Sultan in Seringaptam. Hence he was known by the nickname Gadialgar (Konkani for clockmaker). Tipu Sultan appointed him House Chamberlain. Antonio married the daughter of the French clockmaker and a local woman. Because of her fair complexion, Antonio's wife was called Gori Bai.
