carenhas, IMS, IAMC, son of Mr. Alexander Mascarenhas, The Eden, Santa Cruz (Bombay), in recognition of his meritious services in Italy since the commencement of the Sicilian invasion, and for persistent bravery in the Forward Areas in the execution of his hazardous duties. Capt. Mascarenhas writes to his people on the 8th of May, "I have had my share of adventure and risks in the lightning advance, which commenced on the night of the 9th of April. On that memorable night, when it was the task of our Division to cross the formidable defences of the River Senio, I was present on its banks to ensure the quick evacuation of casualties from the other side of the river, and in the early hours of the morning I took my ADS across, immediately after the assaulting troops had secured a bridgehead across the river.
