1. Leon TEXEIRA was born circa 1740 in Portugal.
General Notes: Leon Texeira, a Jesuit, with a group four Portuguese Jesuits and one Jesuit who hailed from Spain, was expelled from Portugal in June 1758 when the Jesuits were stripped of all Portuguese possessions and exiled (by Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, the Count of Oeiras, who was made the Maquis de Pombal in 1775). The group landed in India about 1759, obtained jobs in the munition factories of Hyder Ali and married local Catholic Indian women. Some say they were Jesuit Priests, others say they were Jesuit seminarians. One was a Brother.
The names of the immigrants in the group were Francisco Fernandez from Spain, Domingo Gonzales, Br. Moreira, Don Pachéco, Paul Rossa (Paul Rosario) and Leon Texeira from Portugal.
