General Notes: An architect by profession, Vitus Modesto Fernandez designed the original buildings of St. Aloysius College at its foundation in 1880. Vitus also has the distinction of being the first non-British chairman of the Mangalore Municipality (1889-91)

Marriage Notes: Joseph and Lucia were both descendants of the 5 Portuguese Jesuits and 1 Spanish Jesuit who were expelled from Portugal in June 1758 and came to India sometime in 1759. They may have been first cousins.
